Frida Giannini, Worker of Miracles

I am really digging Gucci under Frida Giannini. What used to be a label I sincerely despised has slowly morphed itself into something that I actually kind of like. How peculiar... this is, afterall, a brand I commonly associate with expensive sluttiness. Giannini is really trying to class things up. Their collection for Spring is one of my favorites of the season, and I've just seen the Fall 07 today. And, overall, I really liked it.

This coat is so beautifully cut, and in such a lovely, unusual shade of orange. It gets prettier every time I look at it. Quite simply put, Oo la la.

Why I like this outfit has everything to do with the fact that it looks kind of Harry Potter-ish. And I am not afriad to admit it. GRYFFINDOR.

Why, some of these accessories are borderline preppy. I never thought I'd see the day that Gucci and Ralph Lauren would have comparable aesthetics.

It is indeed a strange universe.

Breaking the Law

Another color combination I am totally digging for next fall is black and bright blue. It's so unexpected! One of the first laws of fashion that I learned is that never the twain shall meet. I don't know who decided that, God probably, but it's just something that's always kind of stuck. I had a change of heart, though, when I saw the punky, energetic vibe they create when combined.

I'll try to shut up about colors now.

Love is a Cyborg Playing the Harpsichord

Happy Valentine's Day, everybody. In case you were wondering, mine was awesome. To start off the day, I went to the local bakery (because we totally have one) to buy a dozen cupcakes or so, wearing this floaty Erin Fetherston thing.

Unseasonable in these temperatures, I know, but my heart was just so full of romance! I was given my confections free of charge because I looked so lovely. Then I went to a late breakfast with Jon Krasinski, outfitted in ChloƩ. This ensemble is a little bright for my taste, but Jon just loves me in coral.

After Jon and I said out bittersweet goodbyes, I went to a movie with Daniel Radcliffe. He really is a sweetheart, though a little young for my taste. At any rate, he nearly died when I approached him wearing this! Proenza Schouler really does do wonders for my figure.

At this point, it was beginning to get a bit on the chilly side, and I needed to dash down to the antique shop to pick up the Manet I purchased. And who should I run into at the shop but Cilian Murphy! Quel surprise! Luckily, I was wearing this attractively streamlined coat from Philip Lim's Fall '06 line. Phew!

While hanging up my new painting, Johnny Depp showed up at my door, begging me to go dancing with him. He was so polite about it that I really couldn't refuse, so I tossed on some t-straps and this glinty Gucci shift and boogied away.

Dancing was great fun, but Johnny was starting to get a little wobbly, and I thought it best to cut our evening short. After the obligatory goodnight kiss, we bid eachother farewell. I entered my pristine room and collapsed onto my king-size bed. I was drifting off to sleep when I heard a soft knock on the door. There, silhouetted in the moonlight, was Christian Bale, holding a bag of sour gummy worms. He took my hand, whisking me away to a candlelit dinner in the city. Not, of course, before I put on my final showstopper of the night, a peachy Zac Posen number with all kinds of sexy gathering.

Yeah, Valentine's day was pretty great. And no, I did not have strep throat and spend the whole day blowing my nose and watching The Office season 2. Who told you that?

Primary Colors

A lovely trend that seems to be picking up lately is primary colors. I love the graphic effect these have, especially when mixed with black for a really dramatic pop. It reminds me of elementary school, but that's not entirely a bad thing; it's got that whole nostalgic, crayon box feel. Also kind of sixties television, which is rather cool.

Yes, my friends, it appears that red, yellow, and blue are making their comeback, and not a moment too soon. I think these will add a nice freshness to the black that looks to be taking over for yet another fall.

I Don't Like the Cobra Snake

He's just another esoteric little pocket of interest to make wealthy hipsters feel cool. His pictures are pretty much the pictures on the American Apparel website.

OH MY GOD I AM BLINDED BY TALENT

Ok, I'll give it to him that some of his compositions are kind of cool, like this:

But there are only about a dozen of these redeeming shots. The rest I could find on the digital camera of anyone who knows where the right parties are.

To restate my thesis: I don't like the Cobra Snake.

I Can See For Miles

I'm ending the aforementioned hiatus a little early, mostly because I'm utterly bored with working. Besides, I felt guilty that I had so shamefully left all of the new ready-to-wear unviewed! So let's talk about Proenza Schouler.

Things were mostly done up in soft charcoal grays and whites. In the middle of the show, they incorporated a bright blue taffetta, and after this some wine and pearl gray of the same. Color was used sparingly, but when they used it, it was high impact, and had a most delicious effect. There was a striking mixture of demurely body concious and carelessly baggy, which added interest, substance, and artistry. And the range the show exhibited was astonishing! There was belted fur, delicately beaded slips, chunky knits, tall boots, accordian pleats- all in a succinct 37 looks. To put it quite simply, everything these boys touch turns to awesome.

p.s.- And the cloches! Oh, mon dieu, the cloches! The way the brims sort of shadowed the eyes like that crafted this sort of sultry, film noir wickedness, which was sooo cool, especially with the red lip. I swear I am going to be them when I grow up.

p.p.s.- Their Target line is out this month! Eeee! Life is just fine!

Jumping on the Hiatus Train!

I've just started the Spring semester, so things have been more than a little hectic. I've also been working on writing a short story that will serve as my application the literary School of the Arts, at which I may be able to get a halfway-decent education in writing, something that has thus far eluded me. On top of this, I am trying to finish this top I've been working on, and my crappy $80 machine refuses to cooperate. So, what with schlepping around five different books for French, trying to scrape up some "inspiration", and searching for my spare needle, my life has been quite hectic, and probably will be for another week or so. This blog is going to have to fall by the wayside... sorry, sorry. I'll be back, promise! In the meantime, by popular demand, here's some Bale.

And, my personal favorite....
